Elian’s Early Years: Meet the Team: Academic Year 2021-2022

Here at Elian’s British School, our Early Years team have been busy preparing the classes of Little Bears, Nursery and Reception for the new academic year 2021-2022.

We firmly believe that young children learn best through active play based experiences in a caring, sensitive and nurturing environment where their individual needs are met. Our team of highly experienced, qualified and native speaking practitioners guide and support children in their learning.

Here are three short videos in which you can meet all of us and follow some of our preparations for the year ahead.

We can’t wait to meet you!

What A Year!

The 2020-21 school year has shot by in a blink, yet September 2020 feels like a decade ago.

As teachers, we’re constantly impressed by the resilience of our children, their enthusiasm for school activities and their boundless energy.

From the youngest to the oldest, we’ve shared our children’s progress with pride. And truly, after an extraordinary year, it’s something we can all be proud of.

Pre 2 Little Bears: Elian’s Early Years: We’re Going on a Bear Hunt: Measuring our grass

We planted grass seed and grew our own grass; in response to the grass environment in We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. We followed the process of planting, developing into a seedling and growth and examined the grass through our magnifying glasses, looking at it in detail.

Through growing grass we developed important mathematical skills of counting and measuring.

How did we measure how tall it was ? How high was our grass?

How clever we are at measuring!

More measuring and counting….

Super measuring Little Bears !

Little Bears: Elian’s Early Years: We’re Going on a Bear Hunt: Exploring grass

We have been exploring grass; how it looks, how it feels and describing it. In the story of We’re Going on a Bear Hunt  the family wade through long, wavy grass which makes a swishy, swashy sound.

Watch the video to see some of our explorations of grass….

We are so good at learning new words and describing things. It was so much fun!

Well done Little Bears!

Pre 2 Little Bears: Elian’s Early Years: We’re Going on a Bear Hunt!

Our Little Bears have become explorers! Inspired by Michael Rosen’s famous book  We’re Going on a Bear Hunt.

They have become explorers; packing their rucksack with a torch, binoculars and a map and made their own binoculars to look for bears.

Let’s go on a Bear Hunt!

Through the story, they are exploring the different natural environments of grass, rivers, mud, forests, snowstorms and caves.

Follow our blogs as they learn more about the Bear Hunt…………

Pre 2 Little Bears: Elian’s Early Years: People who help us

In Pre 2 Little Bears we have been learning about “People who help us”, in particular: doctors, nurses, firefighters and police officers. We have engaged in imaginative role play; dressed up in professional uniforms, used equipment and acted out scenarios with our teachers and classmates.

We dressed up as doctors and nurses and made our teddy bears better!

We have learnt a lot of new vocabulary and how to use it, developed our understanding of prepositional language up, down, under and over and even practised our counting skills.

Look at our Police Officers in action……”Stop and go!”

and counting as we climb the steps.

One of our favourite firefighting songs “Hurry, hurry, drive the firetruck”

Finally, listen to our counting skills as we follow the firefighter’s ladder……….

We had a lot of fun whilst we were learning!

Rec A and Rec B: Elian’s Early Years: What are your superpowers?

What a remarkable term we’re having in the Reception classes! Filled with “WOW!” moments, mysteries and exciting activities.

It all started one cold, winter morning when we arrived at school to find that a ‘villain’ had kidnapped our beloved Monkey and Mr Snake. Oh! No!

How could we get them back??

What should we do next??

By listening very carefully to each other’s ideas, and responding with comments and questions during group discussions, we decided to use our drawing and writing skills to make WANTED and MISSING posters.

We used our investigative skills to look for clues and became superheroes — discovering that each one of us has our very own “superpowers”, such as being helpful, listening, being kind and many, many more. We even displayed our creative talents by making and decorating a fantastic tie-dye superhero cape.

Finally, as we have been unable to find Monkey and Mr Snake, or pay the ransom of 1000 lollipops, we thought the best thing to do was to ask for help from another superhero. We wrote a letter to Spider-Man.

ASTONISHINGLY, he came to our school !!!!!!!

He is searching high and low but will he be able to find our friends, or will he need help too……?

Watch the video to find out and follow our superhero adventure with Spider-Man…….

Wonderful, superhero work, Reception classes! We hope you find Monkey and Mr Snake soon!

Nursery: Elian’s Early Years: The Gruffalo Part Two

Continuing with our story “The Gruffalo”.

We have used creatures and forest features from the story to help develop our counting, number recognition and number writing skills. We have counted snakes, mice, owls and rocks.

Watch and listen to these videos as we show how hard we have been working on our numeracy skills.

Way to go Nursery; with super counting and number writing!
